The beer was made with a slightly higher alcohol and wort strength than its predecessor Wiener (see Dark Lager), to better withstand the summer heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was a tradition of drinking the last M\u00e4rzen beer in October, in connection with the autumn market. This is why the M\u00e4rzen beer was also called Oktoberfestbier. This name also appears on other countries' beers of this type, such as Samuel Adams Octoberfest.
